It’s time for a different perspective

It’s time to put common sense and real people at the heart of decision-making

Fairness. Equality. Transparency. Accountability.

I’m not here to play politics, I’m here because I want to get things done. I want to help build an even better Island for our children, one that is inclusive, sustainable, with a thriving economy and a supportive community. Where there are job opportunities, support networks for those who need them, where there is a fair and accessible healthcare system, where today’s children will be able to afford to live and buy a home and where they will want to bring up their own families, should they have them. I want them to have access to opportunities now and in the future which will enrich their lives and those of others, from opportunities which utilise Jersey’s incredible natural environment – which we need to work harder to protect – to those involving the most cutting edge of digital technologies.

I want our children to grow up as part of a kind, compassionate and fair community which values individuals not by how much money they make, where they were born or went to school or who they are related to but for simply being them – whatever paths they take. More than anything I want other people to feel able to be as proud and passionate about their Island as I am, and see themselves as important to its future.

Key to achieving that kind of vision is diverse decision-making. We need people sat around the table who truly reflect Islanders and their values. We need 50-something-year-old male accountants and retired businessmen who used to be part of the honorary police in the States, yes, but we also need outspoken 30-something-year-old mums with liberal views and a passion for local politics, as well as a diverse mix of others. It’s time to mix things up a bit!

Fairness, equality, transparency and accountability have to be key going forward for our Island, and, if elected, I pledge to put these core principles at the heart of my work.

I believe in the power of positive politics, of working together for the greater good no matter what party someone belongs to or which side of the House they may sit on. We should still robustly challenge one another, of course, hold those in power to account and constantly ask if what we are doing is good enough. But we can do all of that while staying professional, respectful and productive.

We should celebrate the good as well as shout about the bad, work collaboratively with those around us and never forget to place real people at the heart of all decisions. Only then can we truly deliver for the Islanders of today and into the future.
